Office of Security and Public Safety

OFFICE THEFTS ON 4/6/09

On Monday, 4/6/09, between 2:20PM and 3:15PM, there were four separate reports of office theft in the building. Pocket books, wallets and portable electronic devices were taken. In three of the cases, the property was left unsecured in unoccupied and open offices. In the fourth case, the suspects distracted the office occupant by asking questions about programs at The Graduate Center. Most of the reports pointed to suspicious behavior by three young females however; Security was not notified until after the property was discovered missing. An additional report of yesterday’s suspicious behavior was received today. Below are descriptions of the possible suspects:

  • African American female, late teens - early 20s, possibly a high school student, 5’4”, slim, hair in a pony tail, wearing blue pants.
  • Light skinned Hispanic female, late teens - early 20s, possibly a high school student, wearing a dark sweater.
  • Light skinned Hispanic female, late teens - early 20s, possibly a high school student, wearing black pants.

The investigation is ongoing and several leads are being pursued. Please contact John Flaherty at x7761 if you have any information concerning these crimes. You should also call Security immediately at x7777 if anyone fitting the above descriptions come to your office asking for directions or other questions. In addition, please make sure that your office door is closed and locked, even if it the room will be unoccupied for only a short time.

Additional crime prevention information can be found at the Office of Security & Public Safety website at http://web.gc.cuny.edu/security/Default.htm.
